question about quest items

ok when i was holding the tap button during quest mode then when i picked up the quest item it did not count as a quest item but when i got another it did count as a quest item is it a glitch problem or when you pick up a quest item some of them could be empty??????

Be sure to pick up all quest items before the portal appears, any items picked up when the portal appears are invalid. [This is why you tend to kill the big things so you can get rare items before you finish off all the little guys XD]

Also make sure to beat the quest or you wont get any items.

There's no such thing as an empty quest item chest.
While you were pressing Tab or so, the portal probably came up. Pick up the quest items before the portal appears, like what FluffyWolf2 said.

make sure its before the portal opens, after that no more item, also make sure u pick it up before it disspears, like they both said ^^

I'm pretty sure the items you get when portals appear still get added to your pile, but it doesn't update until you enter the next stage. Lets say you get a chest when the counter is at 20 seconds then rush into the portal. Even though you had 3 items before and after you picked it up, it should be 4 as soon as you're in the next stage. Then again, I could be wrong and what Fluffywolf said could explain the mystery behind items that "disappeared".
