View Full Version : Formula vs. Truthiness

I was playing with a very good player this morning who either was using formula, or just created one on their own. Which is cool, esp. if you learned the formula just by playing, because you gained that through experience. We all use a formula to some degree, because we've played the game enough to know about where a shot will end up based on the wind strength/direction and terrain. I prefer not to use these uber -complicated formulas that are basically mathematic equations. I like to use what Stephen Colbert would refer to as 'Truthiness'. What I mean is, I go with my gut. I don't hit as often as I would if I learned the formulas, but I think there's more satisfaction in playing a game and winning and losing using your instincts and your own perception of the situations you're faced with. It makes the game more interesting, imo, Sometimes I'll have a game where some easily upset people will say, "OMG UR A FCKING NOOB! GTFO!" and a few games later the master of the room on the opposing team will accuse me of aimbotting and kick me out, and that's really what makes the game fun.

why not be "aimbot" all the time

why not be "aimbot" all the time
that would make it boring hitting all the time without missing
i kinda just follow my instincts master the all the wind's then try my luck if i get to hit...

Using guesswork tempered by playing for a long time is a lot more fun then using formulas.

i totally agree with this. when you play with really good people and they hit all the time, the game just sucks. it's a lot better when you don't know if it's gonna hit or not
-Have you had Steven Colbert's new ice cream Americone Dream? its freakin delicious

i only go with gut and purely with trusting my instinct just because its asures you
how much of a good player your are . and using formulas just shows you how good
you are with other ppls exp.

Haha, nope I haven't tried the american dream ice cream yet! I heard Willie Nelson's Kuntry Peach Cobbler got recalled though.... Guess it had pot and shredded tax documents in it after all.
Good to see I've got some support on this issue, btw. =)

I made my own formulas for any bot I use. I see no point in playing according to what someone else learned... I learned to play the game on my own, and prefer it be that way even if there are many players who are better than me.

Well, I've been looking at all the formulas and tables and yeah, I just wonder, why not just play the frickin game? Also, I'm wondering, how easy IS IT to get an aimbot up and running? I mean, I play Gunz, and the hacking is RAMPANT, but, I guess it occured to me that I might be playing with just as many hackerse in Gunbound, only, maybe I don't know about it...it's very sad....anyway, back to the point of the thread, I think it's stupid to use formulas, and I wish people would just play the frickin game in order to test themselves against one another, for the challenge, rather than constantly trying to find some sort of unfair advantage. :ranting:
Anyway, Hope to see you all on the fields of battle!!!

Well, while I dont really see a 'formula' as an unfair advantage, afterall, anyone with the mental capacity can follow them...I do see how it takes a game, turns it into a math problem, and completely removes the word 'play' from the situation, mostly because some lifeless kid in mommy's basement, or some wannabe programmer with WAY too much free time on his hands, decided that his avatar isn't ranked high enough to stroke his weakened ego after a day of being dismissed by every female he meets. It's no longer a game when one sticks to a rigidly structured formula...it becomes a match of "who picked the strongest mobile"...completely removing any unexpectedness from what is supposed to be a game...
Anyway, there's my two cents...

not all formula players r nerds >_>, most of em just copy off others, and the ppl who make them r just smart, it may b an unfair advantage, but a lota other things can b an unfair advantage too( if u have cash, if u have more time, if u got a better mobile, if ure smarter>_>)
and we all use formulas 1 way or the other, how else wud get a gud shot or a close shot 80% of the time, of course u wud remember experiences and learn from them then remember them, pretty much how a formula is made.

no matter what you will always have people who aimbot or use a formula... if you use feel, and beat someone who uses a formula then mroe power to you. its not to say it cannot be done, i have done it before. and though most people who never miss use formula, there are some who use feel, and in reality, your accomplishments in this game will only be truly seen by you because you are at no greater advantage by using feel than you are using a formula. and who knows waht method you use anyway?

I like going on my instincts and knowing how to shoot shots precisely even if they aren't the most accurate. It makes it more of a challenge and more involving and also more "dangerous" to predict. ;p It reminds me of Austin Powers 1 when he is playing Black Jack and he has five and he stays Rofl. "I also like to live life Dangerously" haha Great Post.

Ok guys look, it doesn't matter if you feel or form. If you guys are telling me that hitting every shot is NOT the point of the game I don't see what is. Some people like using feel because its faster and has more possibles, some like formula because you have confidence in shots to gaurentee a hit. So stop this ******* discussion and let it end without a flame war. kthxbai
after more than half a year of going by feel, i discovered formulas. i by no means lack the experience needed to feel my shots, wat i lacked was consistancy. missing critical shots and letting teamates down werent exactly satisfying. now that i do use formulas, its a lot more satisfying when i can save my teamates, or with the help of a good teamate, make some1 die without getting a turn. some call it cheap, many call it hack; tbh those words are like music to my ears, because my skills are acknowledged. and i donno about u ppl, but i play in open zone, where most pros are. it really takes the game to a whole new lvl when no1 needs to worry much about hitting. this is where strategy comes into play -- who to hit, when to dual, when to dt, how to play each bot, how to play against each bot. there is a lot more to this game than just trying to hit some1. tho i hv 2 admit, it gets repetitive once in a while, so i try dfrnt bots, and i do sometimes go by feel, especially on boomer. i pity those who reject formulas without giving them a try.

Althought i play my main bot with mostly feel, i believe that formulas exert some degree of skill. You have to know how the forms work and how to adjust to them. When i used to use my old bot, i used forms to the point where i didn't need them. They gave me a head start.

I go with my intuition. Alll the way.. And its some of those bad days were I don't even make my shots at all. :< *tears*
I feel it. I don't know how, but I feel it. I was called "aim hacker" many times because I was just a wooden hammer winning big time. I haven't played in over a year, but I played once last week and I hit around 80% still.
