NA GunZ = NA Only?

Alright, next to game exploits which will not be fixed due to MAIET's decisions ("K-Styling being encouraged/allowed"), the next HUGE problem, in my opinion, with Ijji GunZ, is that people from Malaysia/Singapore/Koreas/Japan play on Ijji, and create unfair situations due to the fact that they lag.

If I'm not mistaken, the Ijji servers are located in California, USA.

If I'm also not mistaken,
Korean GunZ servers are for Korean,
Japan GunZ servers are for Japan,
India GunZ servers are for India,
and Brazil GunZ servers are for Brazil.

Yet SO many players, who should be playing in OTHER GunZ servers closer geographically to them, play on Ijji and get an unfair lag advantage. People from Malaysia/SG/Korea/Japan always have 180 to 250 ping to me, and I'm on broadband cable. Other people with broadband in USA get 15 to 40 ping to me, and I get the same to them - which is playable.

At first, I didn't know why they did it. Why would you WANT to lag to everyone else, because that means everyone else lags to you as well. I thought, "I would never," for example, "download kGunZ, and try and play there, while I had 200 ping to everyone. What would be the point?"

UNLESS!!! I developed a strategy where I *ABUSED* the fact that I lagged, to get an UNFAIR ADVANTAGE.

Yup. That's why they do it. At least a lot of players do, maybe there's a couple people that play on Ijji because they have a couple friends that play on Ijji, etc, but most use it to exploit their lag. How?

1.) The first way they exploit their lag, is simply RHSing with shotguns everywhere, unpredictably. A player who is dashing/jumping unpredictably and RHSing with low ping, can still be easily hit. You just aim at them and shoot. But if you have no idea where they are going to go, there's no way to lead-shot them. You just have to guess. But on their side, they are just repeatedly spamming double shotguns at you, which is bound to hit you 3 or 4 times eventually, so you'll die. Yes, there are ways to counter this. You could do the same thing as them and RHS around unpredictably and keep attempting to lead-shot (basically, guessing), so they basically have the same chance of dying as you. Or you could start using different tactics like corner hugging with massive or luring them into nades, or sniping, running, sniping, etc. They aren't invincible, but that's not the point. Why should I have to develop completely different strategies to fight someone because -THEY- are lagging?

2.) The second way they blatantly exploit their lag, is on maps such as dungeon where there are many cliffs that you are able to 'climb' up. Let's say I'm on a tall ledge in the stairway room of dungeon. If someone with 15-40 ping sword-climbs up the wall, and slash-shots me with a shotgun (with the intent of falling back down, sword-climbing up the wall again, slash-shotting me again, and repeating), I could just shoot them back, or block and shoot them back, and they would get hurt a lot. Sadly, people with low ping use that tactic a LOT LESS than laggers who play from Malaysia/SG/etc. And what happens when THEY do it? They sword-climb jump up, slash-shot you, fall back down, sword-climb jump up, shoot again, fall back down... The same thing, but the difference is, you cannot hit them. If they pop up, and you shoot them point-blank with a shotgun, you'll have missed completely, because on THEIR screen, they've already fallen back down below the ledge, and all the bullets missed, however, since you're more or less standing still on the ledge, they can hit you 100%. You basically have to GUESS (again), and shoot the air when you THINK they are about to pop up from the ledge. Or, you could be psychic, and telepathically predict the moment before they jump up. Point is, with a non-lagger, he'd be taking just as much damage as you, because you'd both just be shooting each other the same amount, when he pops up from the ledge. But for a lagger, you must modify your tactics, or create entirely new tactics, because THEY are lagging.

3.) The third way they exploit their lag is in duels. Certain ones will use tactics where all they do is "stay away" from you. For example they slash-shot you dashing backwards, RHS around, slash-shot you dashing backwards again, RHS again, dash backwards again... Now, this is not a problem dueling someone with low ping. I shoot them, they get hurt. I slash them, they get hit with that 'hit' animation and are stunned for a half second. But when they KNOW they are lagging, they can keep that distance from you and never get hit.. because on your screen, you're hitting/slashing the heck out of them, and on their screen, you're just hitting the AIR 10 feet in front of them. So basically, you'd have to somehow dash PAST their constant BFing/slashshotting, to get around behind them, and hit the air 10 feet behind them on your screen, in order to actually hit them once on THEIR screen, and do damage to them. Players who lag like this also like to circle-BF around people, because even if you block them, they're already half an arc around you, so they will not get that 'block recoil' animation, because you never blocked their slashes on THEIR screen. So again, it's a case of having to extremely modify your tactics because THIS guy chose to exploit his lag and play on Ijji instead of a server where he would get ~30 ping to everyone.

Ask yourself this: You know the people who lag themselves on purpose, to get ~5000 ping on Island in the gladiator rooms (probably by downloading stuff at the same time, purposely), you know how all they do is stand still in the corner and flip? Why do you think that is? Perhaps they are TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THEIR LAG (which they intentionally gave to themselves for an unfair advantage) to get more kills than they NORMALLY would with a low, fair ping?

It's the same thing here, just less noticeable.

Why cant people from Malaysia/SG play on kGunZ, jGunZ, or indiaGunZ?!? All three of those countries literally surround Malaysia/SG in an arc... all THREE!

California and Brazil servers are too far away from you.. hence why you get 180 to 250 ping to everyone on Ijji.. but I suppose that's what you want isn't it?

But here's where it goes too far. I've actually been kicked from TDMs, and kicked from duels, several times, because the majority of the players in that room are from Malaysia/SG/etc, and they say that >I< lag. Now, THAT goes too far. I have a fast broadband cable and I live in Ohio, and someone with broadband in California (across the country) gets about 35 ping to me. People who live in NA should not be getting kicked by SG/Malaysian players because they outnumber us in our own game.

Ijji is the only server for NA... Please do what's right and stop letting others exploit it for easy kills...

(However, players from Europe like UK and Germany etc seem to play in Ijji, and I think this is fine because they all only seem to get about 75-100 ping, to me anyways, which is still playable in my opinion. However 180-250 ping is not.)

But where in my post did I even mention Australia players being the problem? I said Malaysia/SG mostly... Australia players get like 120-160 ping to me, which yeah is kinda bad (and yes I know it goes both ways)... but not near as bad as Malaysia/SG players... Ideally EU and AUS should get their own GunZ servers too but my biggest complaint are the Malaysian/SG players who blatantly/purposely ABUSE their lag and play on Ijji.

You got it WAY wrong,If you see someone as 200 ping,they also see YOU as 200 ping.There is no advantage with lag so to speak.And players from Korea and all those other places are already ip banned because they have their own versions.

DUDE. I said several times that I know if one person lags, the other person lags to the first person also.

But you've never played on an island gladiator match and saw someone with 23050 ping and getting loads of kills by standing in the corner and flipping? It's because they are SOOO far behind in 'time' (lag), that when you flip them on your screen, you'll just get flipped instead. Then once they see you start to get near them on their screen, (which is like 20 seconds to minutes later), THEN they can simply move out of the way, and once youre flipped (from being flipped 20 or so seconds ago) on HIS screen, then he goes back to his spot and keeps flipping. Note that I'm talking about the people with 35035 ping here, which you see sometimes on gladiator, not SG/Malaysia players in general.

I was comparing the two.

The point I'm getting across is YES you can abuse your lag, YES it goes both ways, but that doesn't mean that a lot of people that lag themselves on purpose aren't EXPLOITING it.

Like I said, it happens on the newbie servers like Entry-level and Beginner. Maybe you haven't been playing long enough to even see one of those cheaters?

What happens is players attack them, not knowing they are lagging, then they just get flipped. Or, players join, and see someone with like 50-3 kills/deaths, then they see them (its the lagger/flipper), so they attack them, and just get flipped as well (again because they don't realize they are cheating/lagging).

But I see what you're trying to do, you're just trying to do the kiddie thing and be like "lmao its cuz u suk!", well no, I myself learned how to kill those flipper/lagger guys, you just single-slash them repeatedly without actually moving into them, and move away when they start to turn to you or block you. Again, that's modifying your tactic completely just to kill a lagger. It's not right. But we're getting off-topic.

Standing in the corner and flipping, with a lag of 250, or even 300, it's still possible for a person to be flipped. If they're over 600, they're downloading.

A very controversal subject indeed. Mauser back off americans and don't attack them or else I will report you. I can see why many people hate americans as we are asses to other countries, but don't blame the american gamer, blame the american poloticians (Spellcheck) and such. And for anyone who says that Omg the lagg goes both ways, please don't kid yourself. It does not go both ways, because we are closer to the server and send the peer2peer quicker. That's why when I played GM_Devilito, or GM_SKiNG, or GM_Slider, they all had at the most 10 ping. This is because trhey are in the same building as the server. its not really fair as americans cannot play kgunz, can play brazil(only cuz its in an early beta test), cannot play ingunz, Nobody can play pnGunz cuz thats in alpha testing right now. people who cant speak english probably gets someone to post a tutorial or uses a translator on a website. now is that really fair? us north americans finally get our own server and everyone comes here. The "Ban everyone but NA" is on the percentage of 59%.
Unless, a damned Staff member came and cleared this crap up once and for all, then no one will have anything to worry about, and those who live in NA will have to live with it.

A repost of "This is NA GunZ", it would be so easier to give the person a link to the Staff members post to show that people who aren't from NA are banned, other than sitting here, fussing and kicking getting angry about it.

And if everyone who doesn't live in NA gets banned, well then there wouldn't be anymore posts of this.

Pffft, like that will ever happen. Telstra is trying trying to get some petition form to give us faster internet, and the Government is denying it believing it will be too much of a problem.
Even if they did give us 40x faster broadband, they'd probably make it... 50$ A month, with a 1GB Bandwidth.
If they made it 40x Faster, I'd download at 1.05 MB per second, and that's a lot, (For me anyway), and for a ridiculous bandwidth, wouldn't bother.

let me tell you, im from south america...the closest gunz sever is brazil....but theres only 1 problem..i dont speak portuguese....i can only speak english and spanish....why would gunz be portuguese in south america, if almost all the countries there speak spanish as main language >_<.... i hate to lag..i usually get 100-130 ping..

The connection is like for example:
When 2 PORTUGUESE players play between temselfs the connection doesnt pass 20 mark.
When a Portuguese player and a american play between themselfs the mark doesnt pass 99 mark...
When a 4 or more PORTUGUESE players and 4 american players play between themselfs the mark can reach 200 mark or 300...
When there are mny different connections and ppl coming and going out and all the mark is wild...

So, here's the Q&A session I had with Guntrix. PLEASE NOTE: While the facts are derived from Guntrix, I have finalized the words to my thoughts, and upon what the community should be allowed to know. Yes, you don't get to know all the small tidbits. That's because of either two things: it'll be better to surprise you in the end, or you're just going to flame it to hell. AKA, I'm acting as the PR here right now. So, without further do, here's the Q&A!


1) If the new version of gunz is for North America then why is everyone allowed to play?

Answer: The new version will be stated G-GunZ, Global GunZ. Yes, everyone IS allowed to connect to this new version. Despite that, for a number of users, they would possibly have to sacrifice some game performance. In this sense, they would probably be best sticking with the International Edition.

2) Who is the publisher of this new service?

Answer: The contract agreement is not yet completed, thus the publisher cannot be stated. However, upon the release of NA-GunZ, it will be a full version, with fully working functions.

3) When will the new service be released?

Answer: It's planned as an open beta in October or November, but depending on the development status, it could be delayed. The absolute fastest release date would be in October.

3a) What about the note upon Winter 2006?

Answer: The note upon Winter 2006 was about the QUEST mode, being a FULL version. Currently, quest mode has always been in a beta through all versions of GunZ in which it is available. Come Winter 2006, quest mode will have more maps to play through, for one feature.

4) Will MAIET be running any of the new version?

Answer: No, MAIET will not.

5) What will be provided within the "Full Version" of this new service?

Answer: Premium items, clan war mode, quest mode, being the common. Others will be new game modes such as Team Deathmatch Extreme and Duel modes. Another feature could be a ranking system for clans and, possibly, players. This depends on the publisher's capability in the end, however.

6) What payment options are available for premium items?

Answer: There is no definite answer at the current time, but most common methods will probably be accepted.

7) Will there be any new maps for gameplay and new maps for quest mode?

Answer: As answered previously, there will be a number of maps for quest mode, and the Stairway map that can be found within J-GunZ and K-GunZ will be added. There will also be some specific maps for Duel mode.

8) How strong will the hacker prevention system be?

Answer: This mostly depends on the publisher, and not on MAIET's accord. However, the security will be more than that for I-GunZ, and there's a possible response team, which could just basically be the GM team. But, in the end, it still depends on how much the publisher puts in.

9) Will there be anything done about distance lag and server lag?

Answer: Once the servers are moved to the US, the overall quality of service will be upgraded.

10) Will there be servers for locations like singapore/malaysia?

Answer: Depends. Most likely not if there is an IP block implemented (unlikely), but Guntrix has stated that he'll talk to Venister about talking to the publisher on this issue. In the end, it is their decision.

11) Will a list be created to reserve players names from International GunZ?

Answer: That depends on the publisher, again. But it is most likely not to happen.

12) What will happen to the International Edition if most of the population converts to the new version?

Answer: It will remain as it is.


As I stated, the facts come from Guntrix, and the words are finalized by me. However, remember, that MAIET will not be running G-GunZ at all. If they have to test a feature on it, they may have an administrative account, but as for the basis of management, they have nothing to do with it. Most options depend on if the publisher wishes for it to be in.

I want something to happen which would benefit all players simultaneously. Notice that I never really wanted to come out and say "Ban all non-NA", but I was trying to come to some sort of solution.. But it's obviously very two-sided.

1.) I extremely dislike the players who abuse their lag intentionally,
2.) but I don't think giving all non-NA players the shaft is a good idea either, especially when they aren't even trying to abuse their lag, they are just wanting to play. I don't think they should be punished, just because OTHER people abuse their lag.

I'm not saying include every language of nearby countries, but, well, most countries teach english.. so.. How about just adding English language support to all GunZ versions that have english speaking countries around them, like indiaGunZ for Australians.. and adding English to brazilGunZ would probably make a lot of Central/South Americans happy, if they don't speak portugese, etc.. Adding Malaysian language support to kGunZ would be wonderful as well, etc..

Ideally, there would be more servers, like one for AUS, and one for Europe... but I don't see that happening in the blink of an eye. So how about this then? Wouldn't that make everyone happy, no language barriers, AND everyone would have low ping to each other? :)

When i play in a room people will just say like'OMG lagger 200-350ping sombody pls kick him' and its end of my game in that room.I cant speak Korean,Japanese, nor Phillipine language so those server is just useless for me. I i hope is that, ijji could take concern of our problem and do sumthing about it like putting a new server on malaysia or singapore?
