Ever since I've played this game I've seen numerous updates with many great items being added to the drift shop. The only thing is about 85% of these items are G coin. The new body kits look fantastic, especially the latest Fairplay's. Seriously, woah.

Now, I admit I've spent approx up to $150 on this game on g-coin items and I know many others here have spent up to the thousands. But being as frugal as I am today I really don't want to spend any more money on this game considering I'm barely active as I used to be.

The thing is Ijji is a company which needs to make profit wether we like it or not, and in my personal opinion they've lately used devious tactics to do so. Examples are making the much anticipated V7 Leo from Skid Rush only a V5 expecting more g-coin V-level purchases, requirement of scratch cards to obtain a Natura or Dew (Where you don't even have a certainty of winning the car along with the vehicle coming in a RANDOM class) and finally the whole N, S and H repair kits.

It got me thinking, perhaps the game could undertake in-game advertising? You know, like use the many hundreds of billboards which say DRIFT CITY on them and place Coca-Cola or Pepsi on them? The screens in the driver dome could change from one different advertisement to another, you could use them on loading screens, or place brand logos on the sides of trucks, heck, you could get the islands mittron fuel endorsed by Shell or even get the in game gps supplied by Sony Ericcson. The possibilities are vast.

It's nothing new. Games have been doing it for years, just look at Crazy Taxi and EA games such as Need for Speed and Burnout. Don't even get me started on sports games. I personally reckon it would be an interesting idea, it can add to the realism and Ijji can get their income from the sponsoring companies. Thus, hopefully meaning less need for G coin items. However this is only just an idea to get the players and GM's alike to get their heads thinking. I don't even expect this to get considered by the developers for a second.

What are YOUR thoughts on this idea? Questions, comments and constructive criticism are all welcome. More feedback the better. Who knows, we could build more ideas from this.

Thanks for reading.

Best idea ever, but:

IJJI is too lazy to actually try to get sponsors. It's easier for them to implement parts breaking and kits that rip you off of 20$ every time you want to +12/13 a hyper part. I bet the next update's gonna implement the 500 gcoin L/M/N/... docks.

The new kits are sexy indeed, but yet another 80 gcoins? Daaamn no. This game is transforming to: Drift City - Insert G-Coins to continue.

P.S.: Next time, make these threads on Monday. They don't tend to survive through the weekend.

They wont do this becuase of the following reasons.

~They are straight up lazy.
~Would rather scooter race around the office.
~They dont have the time or the effort for thier community.
~They would rather keep it the way it is and make money off of the G-Coin items instead of make some of them mito.

but awsome idea :D

And yeah it kinda is, its turning more into like, Play for free! but in tiny tiny print is says (But your car/look will suck!)

But now its like P2P (pay to play) Its either you beg your mom for gcoins, or well.. your car will be ugly and or suck :D

Well, it's getting more like: Play for free (But your car will be slow). I mean, it's nice that we got the red booster ZOMG +10 boost points!!! That's SOOO useful!!! when the Mk.II kits add +1-2mph and REALLY NIFTY bonuses.

Not to mention the N,S,H repair kits, seeds, beta sets which need lubing, scratch cards, pick'em tickets and many more.

I don't think that's possible since N pluto are the DC programmers not ijji.

If this is implemented, we'll have complaining about in game advertising and how Ijji is so greedy, yaddad yadda yadda.

No one will ever complain with advertisment boards of boring "Drift City Drift City Drift City Pizza Hat Pizza Hat Pizza Hat" to be replaced by real life company advertisments.

Yet another thing I suggested in another similar thread is, DECAL. Trust me, adding mito decals with Real life trademarks WILL attract people to use them, 100% sure. Sticker with sponsor's trademark on it should also be allowed, as part of the sponsorship for Drift City.

Advertisement boards would be with Ijji, not with nPluto

Buuuuuuuuuut, to us, ijji has a terribly poor reputation. I don't see how it can have a good one with large companies.

It doesn't even need to be big companies. You can just offer them a new service: In-Game advertising. It can be only on DC, so the prices reduce here, or you can work a way out to put it on all games and get interest of big companies.

Altough, I wouldn't mind they changed the name from 'Drift City" to "Pepsi City", and we had to use "Pepsi Power Enhancer" to enhance parts and "Pepsi Diet Repair" to ge them fixed. HUVs would be CocaCola cars (Some cars are red already!), just like in PepSubber... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avjOMdl70MA

yea, i would absolutely be for ingame advertising... it doesnt dusturb the gamplay (hopefully)...
more car brands could be introduced.. maybe some companies are interested in gettin adverts like that.... mitsubishi would make HUUUGE profit with comet lovers lol....
no srsly i would rly like that to get more mitto items...

I just though on something that could go bad, really bad: Most of the cars aren't on their real names, yes, but companies can run against NPluto if ijji makes profit with thie rcars, with the name son it or not. They will need to deal with that first and later with advertisements...

Red booster, if you are talking about drift shop items. But they are even giving the pick'em tickets for free on BZ, so yeah, ijji is not so money hunger for now :) Getting better, luckier and smarter. Oh noes!

If this is implemented, we'll have complaining about in game advertising and how Ijji is so greedy, yaddad yadda yadda.
Well of course everyone is out to make a dollar, so it would be possible they would go overboard and start doing scrolling advertisements down the bottom of the screen every 2 minutes, everything has its pro's and cons I suppose.

However I reckon with less G-coin items, there would be a ripple effect throughout the entire game. Just look at all the top players in channel battle, all V9 Comets, Atokas and Pandas. The day of natural v9 is long gone. Almost every high level player you see are draped in G coin items head to toe, and it seems like this present day you require them to be somewhat competitive with the rest of the pack.

Alot of money is coming out of someones pocket to pay for this. For those who may be less fortunate or just don't bother buying g-coins, they would most likely rely on other people to lube their beta booster or repair their parts. Look what happens there, scammers are spawned and people get ripped off. With more mito items, players wouldn't have to rely on others as much hopefully meaning less "I got scammed" threads all over this forum like a nasty rash.

The new kits are sexy indeed, but yet another 80 gcoins? Daaamn no. This game is transforming to: Drift City - Insert G-Coins to continue.
This is exactly how I feel. We need to keep buying lube just to keep our points on our beta boosters. Not to mention most of the items I get are purely for cosmetic purpose, ie. stickers, wheels and paint, it really annoys me that they are only somewhat temporary. But for things like V-upgrades and mito/exp drinks sure, g-coining them seems fair enough. I'm not saying every item needs to be mito. However I have observed that in all our previous updates we've got alot of items - which is great, but I can probably count every new mito item with just one hand.

P.S.: Next time, make these threads on Monday. They don't tend to survive through the weekend.
Ah true. Stupid me! I'll just have to keep bumping it until the weekend is over haha.

But yeah, this only an idea. I doubt they would be able to get huge sponsors anyway considering our playerbase is relatively small compared to online games such as WoW or CS. But thanks to everyone for their responses so far, keep them coming!

In game billboard advertising is something I support. However, I think it'd be a tough sell because of the small number of Drift City players. Advertisers are feeling "the pinch" as well, and advertising in Drift City may not make economic sense for them.
