Instant Mission : Complete races

I get Instant Missions saying 'Complete 30 races'

Does this mean I have to actually finish the race or just enter 30 races and doesn't matter if I finish or not?

So if you didn't make it within 20 seconds of first place.. it won't count? o_O

I thought as long as you stayed for the entire race, and actually attempted to finish (not those people who just sit at starting line) it would count..
