View Full Version : NAT error, FIX (Portforwarding)

Simple guide to portforwarding.
When you got a router (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Router) in your network you need to config your router to prevent NAT errors.
Your router blocks certain ports that gunz need to connect to other players. To open these ports and stop NAT errors follow this guide. Nat error is also known as Agent Error.
1. Find your router device, and write down the brand and type(number).
2. Write down your computer IP and your Router IP(default gateway).
To do this:
-Go to Start, Configuration, Network, Open your LAN connection.
-At details of LAN, you can see your computer IP on top of the list. Mostly 192.168.2.100 or something.
-Also can see your Standard Gateway. Mostly 192.168.2.1 or something.
-Write these down.
3. Go to portforward.com (http://www.portforward.com) and search at PortFoward your router. Here you can find a guide on how to forward your router.
4. At forward page on your router, add the ports 7700-7800(Standard ports, adjustable at gunz>options>misc) for your computers IP. Click add or ok to save it.
5. Now your done, test it on gunz :)
Extra/important:
Firewall software block ports also. Open your firewall software and search options to open ports. Or turn off the firewalls while playing gunz. This includes Windows Firewall.
People with Netgear and linksys should upgrade their firmware in order to get portforwarding to work. If it still doesnt work .. then I dont know! (Thank _Aes_Sedai_ for the firmware tip) Firmware is found on official websites of your router brand. This solution might also apply for other routers.
For questions you can post in this thread, Tho im not always arround, if you dont get help try send a pm to me.

Sure, here's a question. Why doesn't IJJI just create a VPN for all it's members so all the short-distance-lag will go away, which would tunnel through all the NAT firewalls on our routers aswell?
Mauser
03-20-2007, 05:41 AM
Im not that technically xD but VPN hmm so its like everything serverside? All movements/actions that players do go through the server then back to other members? :S
Sounds good, then you only have the lag from your house to the server, sux if the server is far away then get same ping to everyone?
It will still tunnel through a lot with VPN...

Remember to open TCP/UDP ports 7700-7800. On your PC, go to Start>Control Panel>User Accounts to verify your account has Administrator privileges. Also be aware that GunZ can only be launched through Internet Explorer.

I have a shtty router that doesnt even include manuals how to do portforwarding with it, but thnks to portforward.com i found a way to do it.
Now I should be able to play at the same time while my brother is playing without the redicolous pings.

WAT DOES NAT SUPPISE TO MEAN? I HAVE AGENT ERROR PROBLEMS:confused:
Cherry
03-25-2007, 12:28 AM
Yeah I get an agent error problem... for the past oh, 4 weeks I have been doing just fine playing in whatever server I wanted but every time I did clan war it would give me agent error to everyone. Now today all of a sudden I can't get play on any server except clan war without getting an agent error on everybody. I know portforwarding won't work because I have done that already and It didn't do anything. My firewall also hasn't changed any in the past few days either so I know its not that also because I disabled the firewall with the same result.

If it gives Agent Error(NAT error) to everyone then you might not forwarded the right way? Or your opponents din't forwarded.
It also happens that fighting other players that using routers cause problems. This is because the connection got to much delay in both routers.
Clan War games are a bit more laggy then normal games. I cant really help you on this.

4. At forward page on your router, add the ports 7700-8800(Standard ports, adjustable at gunz>options>misc) for your computers IP. Click add or ok to save it.
It should be ports 7700-7800, not 7700-8800.

EDIT: Nevermind I found it... I'm stupid. But, they said they won't let me use the SMC 7004ABR with Gunz... So I went to the default guide and I got to my router's site thing on SMC, and it told me to login and use my password; but...

If you dont know your router password, try use the default password. Its mostly Login name: Admin Password: Admin or 1234
If you still cant get into your router, ask the one who installed the router on your network.
If you know how to config a router, then reset it. WARNING!!! don't ever fully reset it if you dont know how to setup your router for your network.

Hi, Me and my 2 brother got this problem.
We sit through the same router, and every time we connect to the same game, we like, meld into each other and the NAT doesn't load.
We think it got something with the NAT and IP to do, Even though we given each of us seperate ports on the router and inside the game.
Is it able to play in the same game, cause it would be fun to team up with your brothers or shoot them, or is this a block to prevent any kind of powerleveling?
Well, I do know it is possible for 2 computers to connect through one router (I have played my brother).

Agent Error is same as NAT error.
The problem is similar but thats NOT true.
Agent error will simply block down all players while nat error lets them connect to you (or you to them w/e) at the cost of +100-150 ping. Also, port forwarding does NOT work with some routers and nobody cares about that problem since 3 years by now. I have a Netgear router (thanks for the manufacturer it sux) and i did EVERYTHING there is to port forwarding, triggering, DMZ and so on. NOTHING works.
Also im starting a topic in bugs section for whatever ijji has done to match server 1 i cannot play any game at it since 2 days because im getting agent errors.
Remember to open TCP/UDP ports 7700-7800. On your PC, go to Start>Control Panel>User Accounts to verify your account has Administrator privileges. Also be aware that GunZ can only be launched through Internet Explorer.

Oh god........ i wont wonder about anything from here on......
Btw... firewall wont help, please understand it Mauser. There are dosens of router types wich are not able to resolve with gunz. One of those routers is Netgear, almost all of their products is solid and valuable AND refuses to work with gunz.
Belive me when i say that i tryed EVERYTHING there is, inclusive DMZ and SPI off and NOTHING helped. If you keep up the security fixes you have done with the last patch then you will loose the players wich cant play now, cause this problem cannot be fixed from the player's side.
Im having a long conversation with Netgear about this Gunz issue (lasting since sever months by now) and i ensure you, they made me do everything this router is capable of to get GunZ working. I play with NAT error and (since that fantastic last patch) Agent Error.
Also you can read about this at GunzFactor (simply type Netgear in forum search) and you will see that its not only a "few people's ************************ness" towards routers. So please tell your boss at ijji that either those players go, or they fix the security issue with gunz.

Netgear
Well, but a new router if u want to play gunz that badly? I got some edimax router, cheap but works fine. U can get these for like 10-20 euro.
For 30 euro u can get a sweex router, they are really good.
Netgear are expensive routers.. those stuff just like linksys got LOADS of options. But for a home network you dont all need that stuff...
And if you port forwarded correctly, it might be a problem caused by the gamegaurd anti hack stuff.
You also can lose the router and connect to your modem directly!
Aerensiniac
04-11-2007, 11:27 AM
Well, generaly if i posess a router then its not because im using a single computer, thus droping it means either i cant use the net or the other comps cant. Though i would prefer that you get the flaw fixed by maiet or game guard, after all it kinda sounds low to tell everybody with problems that they are free to buy a new router or computer. Also think of it that there is no guarantee that the next router i buy will work a+ free and then not to mention that this "half working" patch was aproved by ijji.
So all i can do is to request it again here that you fix it cause the problem cant be fixed from the players side, and it's cause lies within the previorus patch, possibly at game guard.

True but, there isnt that much people with this problem... I mean there still 5000+ players every day that can play normally!
It just sometimes happens that your computer or any related devices are not competable with a game. Tho they should notice it somewhere on the site.
I still believe that your doing something wrong, its a router.. it got port forward function right? Forward the gunz ports.
After that, look for firewall options on your router... turn it off!
After that, look if you got any more firewalls running, including Windows firewall.
Oh ya also make sure, you enterd the right IP from your computer for the forwarding. Like I explained in the guide.

Joined newly created game with a max number of 2 players playing - Fluctuating (Some times works some times not)
Overall impact of the Firewall disable in router and in windows: 0
Change to previous experiences: 0
As i have said Mauser there are routers wich simply fail to resolve with gunz. Im getting more and more sure that its caused by the nProtect used by ijji. If you could give me a software to log or collect more detailed information about this i would do it, but as for now the sad reality is that port forwarding does nothing at all.
"Even worse is that some software firewalls continue to block applications even after they've been disabled. So savvy end users who disable their firewall in an attempt to determine whether it's blocking an application are led to believe that the firewall isn't the problem, so it must be the application's fault. And unbelievably, we've even seen ZoneAlarm continue to block applications despite the fact that it has been uninstalled (figure that one out, folks)!" (Nick Bradbury).

Xtrap is lethal amount of fail. I stoped with IGunZ cause XTrap got a patch (Improved Security) wich resulted in Agent Error everywhere, every time. Since i left it i didnt check on it though, but it was a very funny patch indeed. Also, Xtrap is known for being unable to handle players from too far distances, thus resulting insane amount of lagg even at ~150 ping. Basicaly 150-200 ping at IGunz was equal to like 800 ping here, so no. Not really

Its important that you fill in the right IP adress. Static IP means that your IP giving by your router wont change. Just find your IP like said in the guide.
2. Write down your computer IP and your Router IP(default gateway).
To do this:
-Go to Start, Configuration, Network, Open your LAN connection.
-At details of LAN, you can see your computer IP adress on top of the list. Mostly 192.168.2.100 or something.
-Also can see your Standard Gateway. Mostly 192.168.2.1 or something.
-Write these down.
Just use that IP adress to forward the ports.

Do you have a dlink? Anyway some routers like the dlink are lame and you can't enter ranges, so you have to enter one port at a time and then the list has a maximum limit. Anyway, you can remove alot of that defualt crap that the router comes with. It is really useless unless you personally use any of those things. By removing that stuff I was able to fit 16 game ports which is all you need.

Well, after reading the guide I followed every instruction in portforwarding accordingly to my router. I have done this several times after reading this guide, and only sometimes it works. Sometimes, as in the same repeated steps over and over. But once I shutdown or put my computer to standby position the error occurs again. I have turned down every firewall on my computer and the router firewall. Yet this problem still happends.
I can't think of anything that should result in your router losing it's configuration, other than a failure or someone accessing the setup and changing them. Presuming you're not changing them, I have to believe it's a defective router.Sourceless Qoute
So when you log back onto your router the configuration is gone, or is it still there.

Hello,
I was having the NAT problem with GunZ a long time ago. Somebody told me they fixed it (I didn't know which version/developer of GunZ it was. (Anyway it doesn't matter)).
Well, I've read the whole port forwarding thing, have set up an static Ip-adress and done it all. Still it doesn't work.
I have also NAT-errors with programs like Azureus/any Bittorent.
Is it me that is doing something wrong, or is my Draytek Vigor2200E just crap?

If you cant solve the problem by a correct (if you mess it up then ofcourse it wont work) port forwarding or triggering, then its an incompatibility issue with the anti hack software ijji uses. All you can do is to spam forums, send e-mails and whine till everybody bans you. Maybe after that ijji starts to think about fixing the bug, or telling nProtect about it.
Also, i think this proves my point about "some" router types Mauser. Many people would be happy if your guys could look into it.

I dont think ijji will give details for nProtect GameGaurd, due to hacking problems. Im am not sure, but cause of nProtect there is even more tunneling of connections, making more lag or even nat errors.
If you can't forward gunz with your router, please message me the brand and type. I will further look into it, and list it to maiet and ijji.

Yeah the only problem I have been having on this kinda thing is when I do clan waring like most of the people will have like 999 ping and at least only one person doesn't then my friends have to fight those people all by themselves.

For all the NETGEAR model users out there:
NETGEAR does NOT work when forwarding ports for gunz. DMZ Doesn't work either. I had a NETGEAR router for a long time, and constantly dealed with having 9/10 players with Agent Error.
I bought a new router that is NOT NEATGEAR and it works.
So, in short, if you have a NETGEAR model router -- Get a new one.

U should know, all routers that got portforward function is compatible for gunz. Yet not compatible for nprotect/gamegaurd.
Also nprotect/gamegaurd make certain players lag. I will notify ijji about this problem. Also asking for more information about nprotect, it could be that nprotect need to be forwarded as well.

If you got a router, and din't forwarded gunz. The router might used plugnplay or something, tho this might be changed so you have to forward it anyway.
Its always best to forward your router for gunz to play optimal.

Its of no meaning. Just forward the ports you want to the fix ip you generated.
Thus if you set your fix ip to 192.168.1.2 then forward the ports to the same 192.168.1.2

I've never had a NAT problem ever. Except once I switched to Comcast cable internet and started using this Linksys router, I haven't been able to play with the other computers in my home network. Any way I can get this to work? I've heard that i couldn't, yet in this televised kgunz tournament, (i'm sure many have seen the video: Aplus clan's major collapse and KOR beats them) they're all in the same room playing eachother. So, that just makes me wonder if there really is a way to play gunz with other computers in my home network.. Any help would be appreciated :)

Well aparently that is not a router; it is a modem.
Two possibilities:
1)You have a router between your computer and that modem.
Or
2)Your ISP is messing with your modem's configuration:

Remember to open TCP/UDP ports 7700-7800. On your PC, go to Start>Control Panel>User Accounts to verify your account has Administrator privileges. Also be aware that GunZ can only be launched through Internet Explorer.
Or through Mozilla Firefox using the IETab plugin.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419
Download, restart the browser and click the little icon in the bottom right hand corner of the browser. If that isn't simple enough for you then don't use it.

I dont know if this is the NAT error (Agent Error) because it doesnt show in the game.
Everyone gets 999ping i cant kill or damage any player , bud they can kill me. They dont see me in the game and dont see what i typ in chat. And i get message when joining a server ''NAT network configuration: <player name>'' of every player except me.
Is this the Agent error u guys are talking about or is it something else that can be solved easy?
Have you port forwarded yet?

yes i have
Assuming you did it properly: set up static ip, used the computer address, and set both UDP and TCP. You could try opening these ports in your firewall UDP/TCP. Do you get this with everyone? This isn't agent error, and you won't get a NAT configuration with yourself.

To be honest I don't know then. Three things that may be causing it are: ISP, modem, router. Some routers have a advanced setting called gaming mode that needs to be enabled (I had to turn it on with my DLink).

You are solely and completely responsible for the cost of all telephone and Internet access charges along with all necessary equipment, servicing, repair or correction incurred in maintaining connectivity to the Site or Service.
13. Server Outages
There will be regular periods of server maintenance as well as spot maintenance, usually coinciding with a new game or new service. NHN USA will do its best to limit server down time to ten hours. However, NHN USA is not liable for any loss of usage or data experienced as a result of maintenance or other down times and you agree to hold NHN USA harmless for any such loss.

So... theres not really a reason for them to help us netgear users, as even paying customers already agreed that they imdemnify 'em regardless if they can access their account or not.
So now the real question is: Are they ***holes? or do they really do care about us?
EDIT:
Wait a minute... NHN USA will not be responsible for a user's inability to access paid services during server maintenance.
We may have a case here lol

LIST OF QUOTES FROM PEOPLE WHO TRIED THIS AND IT DIDN'T HELP THEIR PROBLEM:
Replying: My friend can't get it to work and I've port forwarded several games, as Starcraft needed me to portforward on an update due to the port being blocked. So thusly I told my friend how to do this, and he still has problems. Not sure what's the problem here?
Netgear WGT624v3 [something like that] Ports 7700 - 7800 forwarded to his Ip *.*.*.X
i tried to forward my port but it still isnt working for me... every room, server, ch I still see other players with 999ping. Occassionally i spike up to 20,000 ping myself
Ok this is crap. I've tried all methods for forwarding none helped. I tried my firewall it worked for 5 whole dam minutes and then after those 5 minute i started getting Agent errors again. Please Ijji Fix this big problem. I just bought prems and now i waste them ffs! It all happened with the last update!
Hello,
I was having the NAT problem with GunZ a long time ago.
For all the NETGEAR model users out there:
NETGEAR does NOT work when forwarding ports for gunz. DMZ Doesn't work either. I had a NETGEAR router for a long time, and constantly dealed with having 9/10 players with Agent Error.

Note that he said "should", which implies he didn't test it yet...

If you experience AGENT ERROR... I can help you!
There are some simple things to do first.... TURN OFF ALL ANTIVIRUS AND FIREWALL SOFTWARE!!!
some of it blocks ports and GIVES YOU NO WAY TO STOP IT.... turn it off... at least while playing gunz!
second... Add *.ijji.com to your trusted sites (in security tab of internet options (under tools, internet options, security tab, click on trusted sites, click sites button, type *.ijji.com at top, then click add, then close, then apply))- This will also fix PLAY NOW BUTTON errors...
Now move on to port forwarding....which nowadays also needs to be set on your MODEM!!! most modems (DSL & Cable) now have built in NAT which you will need to disable, forward, or set to use DYNAMIC ROUTING... (type based on your router)... send me messages with your equipment types and I can help!!!
DON'T GIVE UP!!! there is always someone like me who can MAKE it work!!!!
or you can always try me on Quest Server 3, as Legon-air

aim v6, or aol instant messenger version 6, closes if u open gunz up, and windows defender closes certain processes if it tries to run on your system, since gamegaurd is "a trojan" or so people call it, try to exit out of your windows defender, now as for aim, exit out before you even connect to the play live button, now a few post up, ther is somethin on firmware, get ur firmware and upgrade, get ur comp with a static ip, and port foward, and u wont ave nat anymore, btw i use linksys wrt54g router. and linksys is apparently not supported but mine works fine now

Netgear and linksys routers dont to seem to work with gunz/nprotect(gamegaurd)
For questions you can post in this thread, tho the help you recieve is by other forum members. (I am not active on this forum anymore.

I used to get NAT connection settings thing to every player in the game, giving me 150-200 ping to even people in my own country.
I did some port forwarding stuff and that, and it made it less frequent (to say, 75% of people get NAT).
I'm using Netgear WGTsomethingsomething, did that little bit at the end of the first post mean that there's nothing I can do about my horrible ping? Port forwarding has definitely made a difference, just not enough of one.

Netgear and linksys routers dont to seem to work with gunz/nprotect(gamegaurd)

There isn't a single post in this topic from someone who did this and found that it worked. NOT A SINGLE PERSON!
For real, go ahead, and look through all 15 pages and you won't find
ONE
person say that this fixed their problem.
HAHAHA OH WOW
I lold, but fo real, it would be nice if the admins and forum oderators would understand that their sh*ty game guard is incompatible with a lot of routers, ergo PORT FORWARDING WONT DO A FU*KING THING. I have been into forums like this for years, the creators are either still too stupid to understand the problem or just care sh*t about it.
Netgear still sucks with gunz, all the way down. Even the manufacturer couldnt tell me whats the problem so it would be nice to look into game guard and the so called bull sh*t of data tuneling.

My linksys wrt54gs works fine. Recently Gunz began showing up in my upnp log. so either they just introduced that feature or one of my router firmware updates has added support for Gunz. BTW I use dd-wrt firmware version 24 RC3 on my router and not linksys's.

K, I am not sure about anything with routers and all, but what would happen if I disabled nat in my router?
I used to get the nat/ae error all the time along with rampant dcs, but after a while it went away for no apparent reason. Not a single setting had been changed on my computer or router.
Oh how I long for that to happen again. My isp screwed with stuff and had to re-sync my internet. Now I have the problems all over. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Notice:
All you lynksis users. Turn off the firewall on the router or upgrade your firmware. "Ya, but Aes if I turn the firewall off my comp will be open to many horrible things." Oh shut up, you can turn the windows firewall back on and your antivirus, as long as it doesn't want to update in the middle of play.
Needless to say I solved my problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND YES I FOUND THIS STICKY/THREAD/WHATEVER IT IS HELPFUL

10-19-2007, 03:07 PM
Spike if you are talking about finding your IP, then go to
start > run > command (alternatively you can go start > all programs > accessories > command prompt).
Once you have the prompt open type
"ipconfig /al" (no quotes btw).
all the info you need will be right there.
Now if your talking about setting up the static ip, thats in network connections. right click your main connection, go to properties. Under the general tab you will see internet protocol (Tcp/Ip). Click that and then click properties.
I hope that helps.
Addendum to all you linksys users. disregard what I said earlier. Turning off the firewall and upgradeing the firmware helped for about a day.
I think I may cry.
I have tried forwarding, triggering, udnp (or whatever that is), and anything else that makes programs bypass my router firewall and connect to or from the internet.
Nothing works!
Just as a side note. Linksys is one of the main providers of routers in the U.S., so why in the world would someone make a program that is not compatible with Linksys routers and then nnot fix it when the problem is brought to light? (cough cough nportect cough cough)

You always have zero ping when you push tab, because you don't ping your own computer. I don't know if it is a NAT error. I have no idea why the game would freeze like that though. The game may just be to much for your computer.

_Aes_Sedai_
10-23-2007, 10:07 AM
That could be your problem. The lack of temporary storage may be causing you graphics card to freak, which in turn causes your computer to crash. Gunz like a lot of space and/or a lot of ram. when I have it installed I have at least 3 gigs on my hard drive free, and I always have 2gigs of ram.

Ports are 7700-7800 if you use the default and you have set up a static IP. The default adress for your router is usually 192.168.1.1 not 192.168.2.1.

Yes, you may experience problems. They may have resolved many of the issues, but I can't say for sure. I know they took care of a couple of the linksys issues.

If that does not work then someone changed your password. Ask whoever you might know in your house. If nobody knows, then hit the reset button. That should reset the password.

That is still a form of agent error, but if you forwarded properly then I don't know what to tell you. Ask the help desk.

I will answer her as well. If your connection is just lame to start with, not much will help you. People have told me that you can't forward wireless. That is a lie. It works just fine. I would try forwarding anyways just to see if that helps, but gunz runs better on a hardwire anyways.

Have you made sure that your window's firewall is off?
If it is, I would go back and make sure that you set your static ip correctly.

Handr0z, Are you using a netgear/linksys router by any chance? Most of them are blocked by ijji randomly.
Don't ask why, you wont get an awsner, If you want to play for more then a week at a time, buy a new router >_>.

Dynamic ips aren't static. XD
Really though, if you have to find something every time you want to use it, wouldn't it get annoying, and wouldn't you lose it sometimes?

Sould be your computer, but I could be misunderstanding you. If it does not work after doing it to your comp ip, then try the other.

Not the computers external ip O.O, I used 192.168.2.100 /101 /102, check which ones arent in use(might be a total diffirent ip). If you have done it check if you opened ports correctly, if you just go in game and check if you still got the error. it might not be the port forwarding problem.
Download a port forwarding tester just by googling it. If the ports 7700-7800 are still closed post here again ^.^

grrrrrrr. Infringing in my territory. Xd. Good advice, but I personally prefer using ips that are spread a little more (.110/.120/.130 and so on). I think it is easier to keep track of.

Vpn ftw, & they just need to make the server run the maps (statics) so people can't edit their map in the folder & run around through walls (no clip), (easly done), I just think ijji are the worst developers in history, same with Maiet.
I could out do their dev skills anyday.
same here mate, and thats agreed with alot of people by this point

OK, I would really like some help with this. I am an AT&T internet user. I have a
Westell Versalink-327w. I have Port Forward 7700-7800 and I also have a static IP Address which is being used by me. I have tested it countless times and I am unable to "fix" the NAT problem. I have downloaded a Port Forwarding Tester and is says that my ports are still closed. Any advice would be major help.

Yes all of my firewalls are off.

First of all, just change it something easier to lesson the probability of mistakes XD (I suggest 140 instead of 136).
Did you make sure that both tcp and udp are enabled? You should also enable DMZ.

Running Windows XP if that may have anything to do with it.

When you go into your router, go to the place where it lists the forwarded ports you have done. look at gunz. It should have an area called protocol, which should say something like tcp/udp. If it only says one of those, I am not sure how to change it without redoing the whole thing on your specific router. I was just looking it up. That has to be one of the worst router layouts I have ever seen. XD

LOL, I will agree with you on that. Yes, I have done this for both TCP/UDP (you have to add two different ports 1 for udp and another for tcp, but they are both in the same port forwarding).
Also while looking around on my router, I have been at this for hours, I saw something that caught my eye. It reads "LAN DHCP Setting" and warnning lable of "The LAN DHCP server is currently enabled. Disabling the LAN DHCP server will require assigning static IP addresses to the computers."
Might this have anything to do with NATs also.
Sorry for so many questions

What area of your router is that setting in? You may try triggering, but I don't see it making that much of a difference. I need to go look some things up before answering further. I won't be able to help you more to later this evening. Maybe someone else will be able to XD.

OK, I have figured it out. In order for me to fix this I had to enable my DMZ mode on my router and enable IP Passthrough. I also had to take off my Static IP and Port forward for me to be able to run the game without any Nats at all! Porbably the wierdest thing I have ever seen. Hope this might help some of you who might have the same problem.
AKA I COULD NOT PORT FORWARD OR USE A STATIC IP TO FIX THIS ISSUE.
