I am downloading Drift City as I type this and was wondering if there was any advice anyone could give me on like picking the right car to start off and when to start buying parts.

Take the Drifter or the Metro... then drive enough to get the Tokio coupon!

Tokio is better IMO, even though its a V3 and the Eric is V4, one look hotter, guess which one :D

When you look at the Modification Chart for vehicles you will see that all vehicles can be upgraded through the V classes, however this is not implemented yet. When this comes it will be easier to compare vehicles directly.
That being said I think it's crazy to suggest that the Tokio is better than the Eric. Increased speed and durability, along with a handy starting boost item, allow the Eric to shoot ahead and stay there for a large part of the race. Tokio is losing to all V4 in games I've been playing except when the player with the Tokio is better.
