I just refuse to race like this. this game lacks settings, maps(areas), and racing normally. I like everything else but battle zone doesn't do it for me.

Edit: I am getting the hang off it only if i race like only 5 people.

The gates add i bit more spice to the races. =D it allows the last place to catch up to.

My point is that when you reach that level, you must be a pretty darn good driver.

lvl is definatly not a guarentee, i mean i raced a lot of people who were higher lvl than me and they werent that good. and its not fun without gates, person with best equip has higher chance of winning and if u make 1 mistake it can cost u the game. thou other added options would be cool, like the time of day, weather and such

suppose ur in last the entire race cause u crash a lot.. u get a dc and boost past evry1 and take first 3 feet before the finish (it happens).. do u honestly think u deserve that win?

The skill would rise, yeah, but normal races consist of players whose level differences can vary from 1-20.

Eh, no gates = unfair race really, at least with uneven cars. I was racing my friend whos top speed was 17 more than mine. What a difference it was. Unless he screwed up REALLY bad, there was no way I could keep up, even with the gates. Without them :\... its just a power struggle.

The thing is this about an OPTION for no gates, or modifiable gates, not hardcoding the gates out of the game. Every single complaint about it being no fun, all about equipment or level, or not fair with no gates has no legs to stand on. If you want the gates on, then leave them on, it's simple. Thats the great thing about OPTIONS they are OPTIONAL, it is in no way forcing you to play the game with no gates, it's simply giving people who don't want them a choice, instead of forcing them to play it in the way it is now.

I don't think there will ever be an option to turn off gates and I accept that. I like to be able to get DC boost and ram through the traffic I hate so much and make the people that threw cars at me earlier eat my dust. From what I've experienced some people that complain about the gates only complain when its convenient for them, but the funny thing is they don't say a word when they get a hyper boost that lets them at least get into the top 3 from the bottom ranks.

skill is being able to do the best you can with what you have. If you end up winning even though you played poorly, is that anywhere near as satisfying as having done everything perfect even if you lost? I don't even pay attention to what place im in. I just notice when i mess up somewhere and try to figure out why or grin at myself if i do something really awesome.

When you race in this game you are existing~ I enjoy playing on high traffic, sometimes i come in first, sometimes i come in last. Either way i always have some fun parts where the whole situation looks terrible and i have no idea what ill do=p Then if suddenly you see an opening, and you somehow slide through it, that made the whole thing worth doing.

however, if u had a perfect race, would u still be pleased with yourself if u came last despite your best efforts? if those that make mistakes beat those that dont, simply because they do make mistakes and basicly get rewarded for making them, theres something wrong with the system imo.. u said it yourself: u dont even look at rank anymore

yes, because as i said i realize the game is random and the only thing at all that can possibly show how good someone is has nothing at all to do with if they win or not, because powerups and traffic and the phazes of the moon all effect that also. The game is like life, its not an isolated vacuum where everything equal. You either have to come to the conclusion that its not worth trying, ever, or realize that it cant be the final outcome that you work towards. Its not the destination=p The finish line just means the race is over.

It would take more than removing gates to makes the 'races' an actual straight up contest in a fair environment. Traffic would be a start. But then if you removed traffic and powerup gates entirely, the one and only stat that would end up mattering is max speed, there are no gates to give you extra boost, so boost doesn't mean as much, there is no need to slow down or have to accelerate because theres no traffic and with practice every single time you play the same track there will be no change at all so the perfect timing could be memorized. So everyone would end up using the same car, which i suppose is also optimal if we are really trying to compare the driver only...

Better make sure everyones playing on LAN with eachother on identical computers.

Then you have a test of.. i don't even know what. Because all random factors and other are removed from the game theres no need to think. The person who worked the most to get the exact timing of the course down, he will win. I suppose thats fair. But its not very exciting.

People like there to be a winner so they can experience winning through them. People empathize. But individual skill, personality, and character is what you can admire, and to see that you have to watch the whole race, the way that every turn is handled, the decisions made when a problem is shown. All thats left to do at the finish line is go get your exp and start over.

Sometimes i like to spectate, and just pick a random person to follow through the race. Sometimes they end up being in front, other times in back. Sometimes they catastrophically crash into something, other times they do something really neat and impressive. I notice it and appreciate it. I bet anyone else spectating is just keeping the camera on whoever is in the lead =p

a lot of games managed to get evenly matched races that rnt completely static.. also theres all kinds of strategies were not tapping into simply because the effects r to small compared to current effects..

your rank not only matters in the emotional field btw.. it determines the reward u get for the effort u put in.. and if results r to random like u said, thats not fair either

Its fair because you will come in first sometimes, and last sometimes.

This game 'randomizes' things more than most other games, at least ones i have played. But that doesn't mean those other games are exacly 'fair' either. If anything the obviousness of it in this game simply aids to press people into the required realization and acceptance that if they lose its not necessarily their fault, so relax and calm down and enjoy yourself=P

im not xactly the kind of guy that lets ppl press him into anything..

theres (at least) 2 types of ppl:
the type that accepts things they way theyre presented
and the type that evaluated what is presented to him and thinks about what (in their opinion) could be improved upon

evidently ur type 1 and im type 2
therefor it is harder for me to chill about it
discussing it is part of the fun for me btw

ofcourse what u say is true: while things r as they r, realise the setup and dont get frustrated by another unsatisfying result.. they realy dont matter.. (which is to bad, imo)

ur also right about other games not being 100% fair all the time, but the difference between dc and ""those"" games is more then obvious..

ofcourse i realise that this was the idea, and i commend them for trying something different..
however, it could be worth considering making gates (bonusses) optional to let those that want to, have the option to play a more sim type of race..
