So far, after about 200 1v1s in a row, I can safely say that I know how gates pretty much work, at least in 1v1.

1. Drift City / Hyper Boost buffs are RARE in small races, but there is a check/balance to this formula. If you are passed by someone using drift city / hyper boost, there is a high chance you will get one as well. That means it comes down to whoever uses the hype DC/HB better.

2. In first place, there is a TIIIIINY chance you can get Drift City, but I'm not sure if its based on what your opponent gets. We will say that 99.9% of the time you will always get Nothing/50% Boost.

3. In first place, you take LARGE amounts of damage per hit, while in last place you take NO damage per hit.

4. Durability shows not how much damage you can take, but how large your car affects other cars when you hit them. An SUV will make a small car go FLYING out of the way, making you lose very little to no speed what so ever. While a low durability car will bump a small car and lose 50 MPH for it.

5. Always have a combo running through a gate if your in first. A combo turns a 50% boost into a full boost in 3 seconds, because combos double the rate of gain in your combo meter.

6. Ramps govern your speed by roughly -10 MPH of your normal top speed, regardless of if you are boosting or not. Because of this, there is a mental note you must make. If you are close to getting a boost regularly, but not close enough to that you will get the boost before you land the jump, DONT JUMP THE RAMP.

hmm, I have more, I just cant think of them at the moment. Try to keep it battle zone related.

How about .. if you are almost at a gate and your boost is not quite full, do a tiny drift : O
Then you get a boost + whatever the gate gives you

The npc cars don't follow the traffic signals in battle zone (ex. they run red lights) : (

Corner ramps are also useless. If you are about to turn to a street with a ramp right at the strat of the turn, don't bother jumping. 90% of the time you're better off avoiding a crash in to it then trying(and failing) to jump it. A well preformed turn drift will speed you enough.

Hmm, I never thought to do the first one, thanks for the advice.

On curvy roads (the cras map comes to mind) its better to break then drift. Breakdowns can make or break a race.

One more thing, at first place ... the first gate u pass will give u 50% boost, next one NOTHING, next one is another 50% and next one is NOTHING.. That is what I got out from lots of races in first place !

Traffic in game ... I gotta say, F**K it, it just doesnt right, cars run pretty fast like that car want to crash to badly, next car aint moving after got hit and it breaks real hard u cant push them isnt right at all.

i realy hate lanechangers and the ones that materialise like 3 feet in front of u

not sure what makes em do the latter.. guessing lag?
maybe the cars could be inmaterial for a very brief period after apearing

I don't know if the traffic is just set to high/random, but there seems to be more spawning traffic when you're first. I remember there was a full civilian car 'roadblock', but there was a small gap. I managed to get past that, but no one else did, because the gap closed when I clipped another car.

Are you sure the game keeps track of what other people get when determining the power ups you get? That seems like an awfully complicated thing to do when they could just have it be random with a modifier based on what place you are in.

And that durability thing, is not something ive considered. That may explain why it seems like its so 'useless', im always looking at damage taken.

If thats the case it may be a much more useful stat than ive given it credit for.

I'm not 100% certain, but everytime I ask (after I blaze passed someone with DC or HB) if they got a DC or HB after I got it, they answer yes.

Well, it can be because they were placed behind.

Well yeah, but the problem is that, if its done by percentage, there is still a chance they WONT get DC/HB before the match is over.

By the way, I personally always wait 1-2 seconds before starting engines at the starting line, so I'm always the last to pass the first gate.

After passing that I end up in the top 3 positions (driving an above) Has been getting either DC or HB 90% of the time.

I guess positions greatly affect the chances.

I'm 90% sure placement in the race is the only thing that affects your chances of getting a DC/HB. If you're in last place your chance is very high of getting a DC or HB, not 100% yeah, but it's still very high, so if you got a DC and passed someone, since your places are switched they get the high chance of DC that you originally had, so theres the reason why they usually get dc or hyper right after you get one and pass them. In small races, say 2 people there is only first place-last place, thus the one in second, is counted as being last, they will take no damage and have a very good chance of getting HB or DC, just as if they were in last place in a 16 player race, so it isn't really scaled according to amount of players in the race either. It does however seem to affect the gates somewhat if you have only a few players out of the maximum allowed in a game, so in a room with 16 total slots open if you only have 3 people, even the one in 3rd probably has a fairly low if any chance of DC or HB.

i got 4 DC in a row today. It was in a full game and i was in like 9th place at the start of my crazy DC chain 0_o I didn't see anyone else getting DCs or hypers, but maybe i missed someone. Still, i must have stolen all the good powerups =P

I really just
boost myself once im in the air during the ramp, so i get 2 boosts. and that 1st boost will make up my speed

u think that was bad? in a race i had earlier it was a 2v2 team race, i lagged so bad cause of the huge traffic my fps was like 1frame per 4 seconds, i ended up barely making a gigantic road block stopping al the racers in the room (my teammate was getting owned) and we ended up losing by 1 point cause i didnt finish the race.

On Topic:
only real tip i can give is at the start dont get first place, stick behind the pack a bit but stay close to them untill you pass the 1st or 2nd gate (depending on the map). after that you should be able to shoot passed them in a burst of boosts and completely flog them to the point all they can do is sit there ****************ting their pants in awe.

that has won me many races, though ive lost more due to super lag (0.5-20fps usually)

Actually, if you're confident in a team race your team mates will provide those team boosts for you, feel free to turbo up and go front, because that 10 car crowd together with the traffic normally increase your distance with those at the top.

people should just becareful when staying behind at the start of the race. one time i did about 4 seconds behind, for sum reason, i got a 50% boost and took me till 1/3 into the race to actually see another racer. thus concluding in bigger races, dont pass the first gate until every1 else has, and in small 2-4 people races, speed to the front of the pack. Never be in the middle. they dont have good middle placed powerups. in a 12 person race, i can get 100% at either 2nd or 6th. so either stay behind to get powerusp, or get to teh front and stay there.

Yeah, it's lag. It's been hurting my traffic dodging as of late, and I think it's something server-side or some bug or oversight in the game because there is no reason why I should be lagging on cable.

The middle of the pack is one of the worst places to be. Since everyone is there, there are constant accidents, pushing either player cars or traffic cars into your path. The front is good because you don't have to worry about traffic as much, and the back is good because you can easily avoid the accidents left by other players and get good power ups as well.

I was doing a 1v1 two lap race the other day, the entire first lap and half of the second, (6 gates) I got "Nothing" every time. The last two I managed to get 50%. A game shouldn't favor those that aren't winning to that extent.

If your teamate was getting owned, how exactly did you lose by 1 point in a 2v2?
