Personally, I liked entries 2, 4, and 6.

Entry 2 is quirky and cute and is a nice image for a forum. I didn't vote for it however, because the color used for the word Luminary hurts my eyes when I stare at it. ><

Entry 4 is bold and plain, and the etching of the design makes it very, very easy to read the word Luminary and the color chosen contrasts the white background of the forum so well it's unbelievable. However, the simpleness of the design itself is eventually what led me to vote for entry 6:

It is very easy to read Luminary on the avatar, identifying it. The dark colors in the base of the image perform the same contrasting that entry 4 does and the lighting effect is a nice touch and isn't just arbitrarily placed. The girl chosen for the image seems to be moving yet is captured by the avatar as a still, giving it "life".

Were it not for Entry 6, I would have voted for Entry 4 and then for Entry 2. Entry 6 got my vote, and my prediction is that ijji will select Entry 2 as it's unobtrusive and cute.

They all are pictures with words on it, I had to edit mine loads of pixels and draw alot of the dragon pixel by pixel without knowing how some of it looks. Its not simple at all, I didnt just get dragon and put words on it.

Your design has 2 parts and that's all. I didn't mean simple as in the steps you took, I meant simple as in the end result. I didn't say I hated yours, it's quite good. You got 2nd place in my book, with number 6 pulling ahead.

You seem to be mistaking the idea behind the contest though. The winner isn't decided by how much effort you put into it, the winner is decided by how good of an avatar you made- no matter if it was 2 steps or 10 hours.
Yours details a lot of work and while 5 is smoking yours by a factor of 2+ you should notice you're in 2nd place. I didn't like entry 5 because the pink and white is just too light a color for a white background. It's most likely gotten votes from the way the "bubbles" seem to be breaking out of the boundaries of the circle and the way it looks like the girl is leaning against a wall and not carrying something 12 times her size like the original picture looks.

Yeah, no male would have that avatar. It screams "girl" at the top of it's lungs. It's kawaii though, so it's probably going to get a bunch of hits.
Besides, the GMs said they're just going to pick the ones they like anyway regardless of how we vote. It's interesting to know most of ijji likes the color pink?

And I don't think anyone would vote for the one with the highest score already, seeing as how not everyone knows how to accomplish that and noone in their right mind is actually going to go to an anonymus poll and not vote anonymusly.

As for multiple accounts, that can be determined by recorded IP. If the GMs read all these posts and every single one trashes an entry, yet that entry wins, they'll probably look into it.
I highly doubt anyone is pulling that stunt however because there's no point to it. All they're getting is a helmet probably easily replaced in the game later on. They're not getting royalties to the forum because as soon as they posted it it became ijji's, not theirs.

I made a warcraft 3 level completely from scratch with 4 cutscenes (Some of which were coded better than Blizzard's in terms of consistency with what the player built) and submitted it for an assignment in class. Only one guy commented on it and he had a problem loading it because it turns out he never updated form battle.net.
3 days of work and no acknowledgements- yeah, I'm a bit pissed. But that didn't stop me from reviewing a few other's assignments.

Sorry you feel that way about my avatar. Being the only entry that is a Circle + the only entry that WASNT copy / paste. Mine is by far the best and I've been told so by many gfx artists over the web. You shouldn't bash people because of jealousy. Mine is well blended and there is a light source from above as she is covering her face with her hand. It may be girly but by far the best avatar. The rest other then possibly #6 (which is just copy/paste essentially with the building / person after being cut out) is probably the other best avatar. Also i'm not multi accounting. #4 was just a copy off of someone elses avatar which was better and isnt even a entry. Do not bash peoples avatars simply by jealousy. Get over yourself and a GM might want to close this topic as I feel a flame war a comming.

Also the text DOES match the avatar (apparently your eyes are shut) and I didnt enter 2 avatars I simply stated IF you can enter 2 use this one as well. The staff at IJJI is somewhat understanding of peoples posts. Please again don't be jealous.

You also entered 2 in the contest which means you shouldnt even be allowed to have yours up there. My avatar is way more effects on it than you, I bet you wouldnt ever find my picture because I totally changed what it looked like. Not one thing on my picture is the same as when I orignally got it, even the dragon I did alot pixel by pixel shading and stuff.

AND mine does deal with the game, and I would really really like to see you do what I did especially without any graphical program other than paint. ALL I did there was from paint except for the font. You couldnt do that even with photoshop.

#4's text isnt the same text as Luminary....theres no "light source". It has nothing to do with the game. My background is completely made by hand the circles were gradient maps. I lol'd at your post.

It's a great picture, but 6 is a great avatar. That's what I think, I still stand by my votes although AV2 was a prediction of what I think ijji is actually going to pick in the end.

I have a problem believing 23 unique people all voted for your avatar as the best. It looks nothing like an avatar. I couldnt imagine it being an avatar on these forums only thing I could imagine it being is a picture for the game and even that its obvious it was made by a player and not the company.

My avatar is actually from a wallpaper for goonzu so it does deal with the game. Find the wallpaper and you will see the font is the same as there, I had to erase the whole word and then draw back the image and then finally put my font there after pixel drawing everything. The orginal background of my avatar I think was actually grass which shows how much of a change I did to it. Yours is 20 minutes of work (going at a slow pace).

And saying im jealous of yours LMFAO thats probably funniest thing I heard all year.

#1 / #2 / #10 is probably more along the lines of what ijji wanted to use because of the simplicity of what they were looking for. #6 is a nice avatar I personally think it is worth of #2. I am not biased to my picture at all over 100 people on my xfire have xfired me saying that the others in there eyes aren't even close. If they vote (most of them aren't part of ijji) I don't see anyone else having a chance of winning via public vote.

Actually what the announcement said was that we may pick images OTHER THAN THE TOP 2 to include in the avatar selection screen. We didn't pick number 5 because of the colors. We picked the entries based on quality of the image (clean, easy to read/understand/look at, etc.), originality (in some cases there were entries that looked similar to each other - then we chose one or two that looked the best), aesthetic quality (nice to look at, represents the game well, etc.), and meeting the qualifications in the rules. Of course, it's not a perfect process - it's largely subjective. But we tried to pick ones that we liked, we figured users would like, and that would look good on our site.

Lighting is a very light layer of a spotlight effect from the upper left (if it's there at all, that white background ijji uses is making my eyes bleed) and the font is solid black overlayed on the entire thing. Those trees on the left are either original image or you used a really small blur tool. When you did the lighting you segmented the girl from the image and applied it only to the background?
How close am I? :P

Ya, the whole image was interesting to put together. As j0n said, a lot of effort goes into these. The "Copy Paste" method wasn't resulted in AV6, as said it has a fade. There is a built in contrast, built in lighting and fading of the girl, along with text effects and shadows placed to illuminate ["Luminary"] different aspects of the image. Anyway...

This would actually be the Korean version of ijji [NHN] probably where Luminary is coming from. If you load the game in IE you'll get the castle, the girl actually is from another image which I can't load on my Linux system right now as I don't have IE, but anyway.

Don't disregard people's work. You won't ever really understand nor know how much time goes into each and every idea. Sometimes it looks like there is only ten, twenty minutes. An individual may sit there for a few days and think on their idea before compiling it. It's all up to the creator, I can tell some took 20 minutes, but the layout and process took hours.

Just how it works sometimes.

Yeah but not all of those 80% look good with text. The first one has no text I would say thats probably 3rd or 4th best. Person probably couldnt find good text to put so put none which I think more people shouldve done.

The way I rate avatars is like 60% the image part and 40% text.

J0N brought up some good points, with the aspect that there is a LOT behind some of these images. Actually in an effort to attempt and draw attention away from such a sharp feature on the female character I did put other effects into the image, along with this a thought as said previously was to get the "Luminary" effect into the image, thus being a source of light. Concepts were flowing, Global GonZu and NHN's Korean GoonZu were beginning steps, with also as seen in the avatars currently on ijji you will notice a trend:

[KH - Red Avatars, Red Main Page]
[SF - Earthy Color Avatars, Earthy Color Main Page]

Thus taking that I went with the Blue to White feel, the Dark blue to the light blue. Ah, didn't see that one? XD. On the female there is actually a soften image, and the entire female image consists of a blend of three layers if I'm not mistaken, actually one enhancing her face more then the rest of her figure, to give that 'spot light' effect, though that didn't turn out 100% as I pictured.

Luminary text is actually right off the site, just took time to select all pixels, resize, and modify it for a slight glow and drop shadow to contrast the Dark to Light, as shown in the castle.

There was about a 30 minute debate with myself on whether or not I should put a 1px black//white soft light//overlay border. Verdict was in respects to ijji avatars it was no border as it would t hen fit more into here.

*Shrugs* Lots go into these avatars sometime. It's funny how a lot of people tend to put just random stuff together and don't think. The thought behind it is what makes it fantastic. Example? J0N's is a circle, unique, and thus... stands out. How can you beat something so unique? My attempt was using an image not found on ijji's site, but a girl from Korean Luminary. *Shrugs* We all try to be unique :)

If you look closely you can see that it's part of a border.
